Scuderia AlphaTauri Unveils Major Upgrade Package for 2023 F1 Singapore GP: Solving Rear-End Stability Issues

Scuderia AlphaTauri will introduce a major upgrade package for Red Bull for the 2023 F1 Singapore GP. Yuki Tsunoda is confident this major F1 upgrade package will address the rear-end stability issues that have plagued his AT04 this season. Aerodynamic updates include a revised and wider engine cover, revised floor body, revised floor edges and diffuser, new sidepod inlets and mirror changes.

Scuderia AlphaTauri said of the floor changes: “The front floor edge helps to reduce the local static pressure at the floor edge and brings out an increased mass flow under the front floor between the fences”, adding: “The front floor edge helps to reduce the local static pressure at the floor edge and brings out an increased mass flow under the front floor between the fences.” The changes increase the strength of the vorticity at the rear floor edge and provide localized load gains within the diffuser.” At the rear, the suspension shrouds have been reshaped and the brake drum scoop inlets have been redesigned. Scuderia AlphaTauri said the latter change “reduces losses in the rear upper wing cascade and increases local loads.” “Also, changes to the scoop exit mean less aerodynamic blockage and the ability to generate greater loads.”Furthermore, changes to the suspension shrouds “interact with the new rear brake drum geometry.” ” and increases the local loads generated by the wing elements of the drum assembly. Hiroki Tsunoda hopes that the upgrades to the F1 Singapore Grand Prix will improve Scuderia AlphaTauri’s problems. “There will be a lot of upgrades in this Grand Prix,” said Yuki Tsunoda. “There will also be a lot of upgrades introduced on the aerodynamic side, so we are hoping for the biggest time gains. Aerodynamics is the main area we are working hard on to improve performance. There will also be some mechanical aspects as well. The main thing is aerodynamics.” “We know, especially from the feedback from Daniel and Liam, that we lack support from the rear. “So I think we’re definitely going in the right direction with the upgrades. I hope it will give our drivers confidence as well.”AlphaTauri introduced an upgrade package for the British Grand Prix, but it did not provide the step up the team had hoped for. This time, Hiroki Tsunoda says he feels the difference in the simulator. “In the simulator, I can already feel the difference from Silverstone. It felt even more different compared to Silverstone,” Yuki Tsunoda said of the Singapore package. “At Silverstone, I didn’t notice much of a difference in the simulator. It just loads itself and it improves the lap times a little bit.” “But this time I might feel a little bit of a change in characteristics. In a way. There are some similarities with the current direction, but it feels like we have a little more support from the rear at entry, which we lacked.” “Obviously, there are obvious similarities, but I feel there is a clear difference.” “Obviously there are a lot more different things that happen on the race track so we’ll have to see that. “But so far we’re moving in a good direction and the lap times are silver. We’ve grown much more than we did in the Stone Simulator, so we’re pretty optimistic.”
