Urgent Evacuation in Martigues Leaves Pets Stranded: Help Save Them Now!

Nearly 150 people had to be urgently evacuated from their building in Martigues during the night from Saturday to Sunday. Since then, dogs, cats and parrots have always been stuck there.

Two towers located in the Notre-Dame des Marins district in Martigues (Bouches-du-Rhône) were evacuated during the night from Saturday to Sunday. Tenants caught off guard and forced to leave the premises urgently in the middle of the night were, for the most part, unable to take their pets with them.

After the formation of “apparent cracks in building K of lessor 13 Habitat, endangering the solidity of the building with the risk of collapse, the inhabitants of this building and building M, nearly 150 people, were evacuated last night », the city explained in a press release. According to 13 Habitat, it was a resident who heard a crack in the night, with a crack appearing in a stairwell, who called the firefighters.

Access prohibited until further notice

A municipal order of imminent danger prohibiting access “until further notice” to these two buildings was issued. A security perimeter has been positioned prohibiting the movement of pedestrians and vehicles in the surrounding area and no return to the site is possible, even to pick up animals.

Most of the 150 people evacuated were able to be relocated by family or friends. Families without accommodation can be accommodated in a gymnasium.

A Petition to help animals

In order to help the animals remaining stuck, residents launched a petition to demand the dispatch of an emergency team, when five days have already passed. She has already collected 750 signatures.

“We volunteer to save these animals stuck once morest their will, being aware of the danger. Let us save these animals,” write the tenants who fear the worst for their animals, soon to be deprived of water and food and while the heat is still around 30°C during the day.
