The rest, we know it. During a special evening broadcast this Friday, September 15, 2023 from 9:10 p.m., M6 pays tribute to the exceptional career of the Quebec diva with a bonus musical event entitled Pour toi Céline. It was only a dream: the day it all began for Celine Dion

In 1981, Celine Dion was only 13 years old. Despite her young age, the doors to success opened to her with the song Ce n’tait que un rêve, the singer’s first single from her album La Voix du Bon Dieu. A hit composed as a family, his mother Therese on the writing, his brother Jacques Dion on the music. Conquered by her voice, René Angélil devotes himself body and soul to his new protégé and future wife, to the point of selling all his personal possessions to produce her. A sacrifice that was worth it for the one who would glean three music victories and six Grammy Awards.

“I promise you that I will listen to it in the next hour”: René Angélil pressed by Céline Dion’s family

It’s difficult to talk regarding Céline Dion’s career without talking regarding the man in her life at the origin of her success: René Angélil who decided to produce it following receiving the recording cassette of It Was Only a Dream . A pivotal meeting for the Quebec diva which almost never took place if her family had not put pressure on the impresario, as Jacques Dion recalls: “When we wrote and recorded the song for the send to René, we waited regarding a week before hearing back. Without any news from him, one of my brothers called René to find out if he had received and listened to the song. René replied ‘ Yes, I received it’. My brother then said to him: ‘If you had listened to him, you would have called us back.’ ‘I promise you that I will listen to it in the next hour and I will call you back,’ René replies. In fact, 20 minutes later, we had a call from René Angélil. The story started at that moment.” he remembers, amused. Obviously, the Dions are pugnacious!
