Some of the stores of the ailing electronics chain BCC were closed on Thursday due to unsafe situations for staff. CEO Caspar Klinkhamer informed NU.nl of this.
Klinkhamer says that “unfriendly, sometimes threatening situations have arisen, which are unacceptable”. BCC has therefore decided, in consultation with the administrators and branch managers, to provide extra security.
“That is not possible immediately. From tomorrow it will be organized gradually,” says Klinkhamer. From Monday, he said, security will be present in all stores where it is necessary.
It was announced on Thursday that BCC has requested a deferment of payment. This is often a precursor to bankruptcy. The chain is experiencing declining income, while expenses are increasing. An attempt to raise additional capital recently failed.
The plan is to keep the approximately sixty stores open as much as possible for the time being. This also applies to the webshop.
BCC is part of the Mirage Retail Group, which includes Blokker and Intertoys. The latter chain was put on display last month. BCC was also slated to be sold.
