France signed its second success in two matches in “its” World Cup. Fabien Galthié’s XV barely won 27-12 on Thursday in Lille once morest Uruguay in Group A.
Convincing six days earlier once morest the “All Blacks” at the opening of this World Cup (27-13), the French suffered much more than expected. The first try of the evening was in fact scored by Uruguayan center Nicolas Freitas, who plays for Vannes in… French Pro D2.
Trailing 5-3 following just six minutes of play by a team entering the competition, the French team was quick to react and regained the advantage in the 13th minute (10-5). Uruguay didn’t give up, pulling back to 13-12 in the 53rd minute following seeing a try refused in the first period, but France negotiated well the last thirty minutes of play.
