Improving Mental Health for Economic Prosperity and Social Stability: Insights from Officials and Specialists

Officials and specialists stressed the need for governments to give utmost importance to tools for improving people’s mental health and quality of life, as this has a significant impact on achieving economic prosperity and social stability.

For the second and final day, and within the activities of the International Government Communication Forum in its 12th edition, the hall of the Department of Statistics and Community Development in Sharjah hosted a qualitative dialogue session on quality of life and mental health.

A number of officials and specialists in human and community development participated in the session, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani, CEO of the Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club, and founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Paintball Park.

Al Thani explained, in exclusive statements to Sharjah 24, that the session aimed to highlight the importance of mental health in people’s lives, and its impact on the quality of life, which is reflected in productivity, income, and the economic sector in general.

The CEO of the Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club pointed out the discussion of the role of governments in spreading awareness of the concept of mental health, and the need for people to be aware of the importance of this aspect in their lives, praising the interaction of the forum audience with the session.

For his part, researcher Dr. Khaled Ghattas, one of the most famous influencers on social media platforms, confirmed that the UAE is at the forefront of countries that have given the mental health of its people the utmost attention, by consolidating the values, principles and methodologies of tolerance and happiness.

Ghattas pointed out the close interrelation between people’s mental health and their quality of life on the one hand, and achieving societal stability and economic prosperity on the other hand.

In turn, Dr. Laila Al Hayas, Executive Director of the Community Development Sector at the Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi, confirmed that mental health is no less important than physical health.

Al-Hayas added that promoting mental health is a cumulative process from childhood, and parents play the most prominent role in this context, pointing out that nurturing and consolidating these concepts requires a lot of knowledge and culture within the family and work environments.
