AMG-Charles Wright standoff: the magistrates’ sit-in maintained

2023-09-14 14:56:49

The Association of Magistrates of Guinea (AMG) remains firm and maintains its sit-in scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, September 15, 2023, in front of the Supreme Court, to protest once morest a decision by Minister Charles Wright.

After several days of mediation with the Supreme Court to put an end to this crisis of magistrates’ walkout, each party decides to remain in its position.

The magistrates believe that nothing is being done to restore their suspended colleagues to their rights. Therefore the sit-in which was postponed last week will take place tomorrow. Then, a march will be planned in the coming days if Alphonse Charles Wright does not change his decision.

As a reminder, this standoff began when the Minister of Justice decided to suspend the president of the court of first instance of Labé and the deputy prosecutor of the same jurisdiction. Subsequently, the Board of Directors of the AMG invited all magistrates of Guinea to cease all activity throughout the national territory, until the reinstatement of their suspended colleagues in their respective functions.
