The Futpro union, spokesperson for players in the Spanish first division, announced during the night from Wednesday to Thursday the end of the strike initiated on September 1 for, among other things, salary demands. Complaints which were heard by the League.
“An agreement between employers and unions has been reached,” said communiqué Futpro. A minimum salary of 21,000 euros for this season, rising to 22,500 euros for the 2024/2025 season, convinced the actresses of the elite of Spanish women’s football to return to the field earlier than expected. In fact, the strike was initially scheduled to run over the first two days of the championship. If the first, scheduled for last weekend, did not actually take place, the second should be able to take place from this Friday.
But the fight continues. This increase in salaries is “just the beginning” detailed Futpro. Unions are now demanding improvements in the working conditions of players. Maternity leave and an anti-harassment protocol are notably subject to negotiation.
These salary demands, “meeting the talent of the players”, come following the coronation of several of them at the 2023 World Cup with Spain. A title tainted by the forced kiss of Luis Rubiales, then president of the Spanish federation, to Jennifer Hermoso during the medal ceremony.
