October 19th – 21st, 2023 / Tanzquartier Wien, Festspielhaus St, Pölten, brut
Vienna (OTS) – In recent years, a number of exciting choreographic works have been created that have not been able to receive the attention they deserve at home and abroad, especially due to the effects of the pandemic – good reasons to reinitiate the choreographic platform format. We are very pleased that the TQW has managed to organize and curate the CPA program together with the leading Austrian organizers in the field of dance and choreography.
A festival for local audiences, but also for international organizers. It is breathtaking what innovation and dynamism underlies local dance. These three days will provide orientation: the local dance and performance scene will be presented here in a concentrated and compact form. I am convinced that the CPA will make a very significant contribution to the internationalization of this area.
With the founding of the CPA, an important step has been taken: Austria finally has a nationwide dance platform, as is already established in many countries. It is the strongest international symbol and means the opening of this extremely exciting artistic scene at home and abroad. The focus of this art and politics initiative is the vital scene of Austrian dance and performance art. It’s great that the federal government and all federal states are behind this nationwide concern.
From now on, the Choreographic Platform Austria will regularly present remarkable dance and performance productions from Austria for a national and international audience as a biennial event.
A network of leading institutions in the field of dance, choreography and performance consisting of brut, Tanzquartier Wien, Festspielhaus St. Pölten, ImPulsTanz, Osterfestival Tirol and SZENE Salzburg jointly curated the CPA program.
The CPA is funded equally by the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Public Service and Sport and by the City of Vienna with 120,000 euros each. The state of Lower Austria, the state of Burgenland, the state of Salzburg, the state of Styria, the state of Carinthia, the state of Tyrol, the state of Vorarlberg and the state of Upper Austria are also participating.
The houses brut, Tanzquartier Wien and Festspielhaus St. Pölten will be holding the joint choreographic platform in the form of a three-day event from October 19th to 21st. An online platform is being developed to continuously present and support a selection of dance events across the country.
In addition to numerous revivals, such as “Ophelia’s Got Talent” by Florentina Holzinger (Tanzquartier Wien in the Volkstheater), “Alalazo” by Veza Fernández in the brut or “MOTORA” by Navaridas/Deutinger/Riegler on the forecourt of the Festspielhaus St. Pölten the CPA the premiere of Doris Uhlich’s new piece “SONNE” (Festspielhaus St. Pölten) and the Austrian premiere of “Exótica”, the new piece by Amanda Piña / nadaproductions (Tanzquartier Wien, Hall G). CieLAROQUE/helene weinzierl, Alix Eynaudi, Philipp Gehmacher, Hungry Sharks, Liquid Loft, Mzamo Nondlwana, Karin Pauer and Michael Turinsky also show pieces that have been produced in recent years. The artistic program is complemented on the one hand by two pitching sessions, which give another 12 artists the opportunity to present their artistic work in a moderated situation, and on the other hand by a screening of choreographic films, e.g. T. were created during the pandemic lockdowns.
The program from October 19th to 21st will take place in Vienna in the rooms of Tanzquartier Wien, brut, Volkstheater, Seestadt Studios and the space Der Betriebs. The program on October 20th will be presented in its entirety in the St. Pölten Festival Hall. We are looking forward to an exciting and new CPA with a large number of national and international visitors.
