Alexandre, 21, killed his 50-year-old mother and his 17-year-old little brother with a knife. His father was also injured by a shotgun blast. The perpetrator was, until now, unknown to the courts.
Master Vander Eyden has not spoken with his client since his hearing on Monday evening. A hearing lasting several hours during which Alexandre explained and detailed some of the actions he took late Sunday followingnoon in the family home. “He explained that he had, in fact, attacked his mother and then his brother using objects from the house.“, reports the lawyer.
The young man is more vague when he addresses the way in which he attacked his father… He also does not explain why he took action that day. Rather, he refers to elements of his childhood: “He spoke of experiencing physical and mental abuse when he was younger. These are things which will still have to be confirmed, or not, as part of the investigation“, explains Master Vander Eyden.
“There was nothing special on the family level that day. Elements from the past? Yes and no. It’s still pretty vague at this point.“, she adds, however.
He is perfectly aware of his responsibility
According to his lawyer, Alexandre, 21, accepts the facts and does not try to minimize them. “He is aware of the seriousness of the facts, since he has not contested the arrest warrant issued to him. He even clarified that he understood very well that he was going to be detained. He is perfectly aware of his responsibility“, she assures.
She adds that Alexandre “answered all questions” : “He was extremely collaborative. He has no prior record. He has never had to deal with the police, nor even less with a judge. So he was quite reserved, but still in a state of shock.“
Alexandre would not have shown any emotion according to our colleagues at SudInfo. He would have adopted an extremely detached attitude… his lawyer qualifies: “He expressed regrets, at least in relation to his sisterheart who no longer lived under the family roof, but whom he leaves in sorrow, but also his younger brother who was young and who might have a future“, justifies the lawyer.

Me Vander Eyden describes his client as a person “completely polite and friendly” : “He is someone who has a lot of education. At least that’s how people talk regarding him from the outside. And that’s how he introduced himself to us. I wouldn’t describe him as cold. No way. I think he is someone who is still very young, he is 21 years old“, she tells us.
The accused will appear before the council chambers tomorrow.
