A storm front kept the fire departments busy in Lower Austria on Wednesday evening. According to Klaus Stebal from the state command, around 75 missions have been recorded. Most of the work was done due to pumping out work. Trees that had fallen on roads also caused problems.
One of the hotspots was in the south of the state, where minor flooding and mudflows were recorded in the Neunkirchen district. According to district fire brigade commander Josef Huber, an “enormous thunderstorm cell” had already formed in the interchange area in the followingnoon hours. When this discharged, streams also overflowed their banks.
The Aspang market was affected. According to Huber, 19 fire brigade members and seven vehicles were on duty in the market town in the evening hours. Due to the storm, the helpers were also deployed in the districts of Wiener Neustadt, Krems, Horn and Gänserndorf.
