A young mother who survived a double-fatal accident last weekend in Abitibi-Témiscamingue considers herself lucky to still be alive, but she mourns her friend who tried to protect her.

“I have two children. I’m really grateful to be alive,” confides Joanie Doiron, following the road accident in which her friend Mario Lessard, 28, and Amyrah Maranda, 21, a young mother of a 1-year-old girl, died.
Last Saturday, Ms. Doiron took advantage of the day by skateboarding. longboard in the company of Mario and a couple of friends, she says.

The quartet then went to a tattoo studio in Amos, where they were offered drinks.
Then, before returning to Landrienne, regarding fifteen kilometers away, they turned off to a friend’s house, where alcohol was also drunk.
“I mightn’t wait to get home. I’m trying to put my life in order. I had my children the next day,” says the 28-year-old lady.
Inattention
On the way back, Joanie Doiron found that the 25-year-old young man behind the wheel was “driving badly”.
“He had moments of inattention,” she explains. His friend Mario quickly felt his discomfort.
“His reflex was to move away and sit next to me,” said the young woman. He took me in his arms and said: “Don’t worry, I’m with you. I will protect you.” »
At the same time, she raised her eyes to look ahead.
“We lined up in the field,” says Ms. Doiron.
The small black car then left the road and rolled over, before ending up in a ditch on the Airport road, in Amos. The vehicle severed a pole under the force of the impact.

They were appreciated
“No one moved. No one was crying or moaning. Nothing. I shouted their names. It smelled heated, she thought once more. From there, I thought regarding myself and my children. I went out. I was in shock. »
People would have rushed to help his friends. However, no one would have seen the driver, according to Ms. Doiron’s memory.
“It saddens me, because Mario would perhaps not have died if he had not come to console me,” whispers the one who works as a driller, struggling to hold back her tears.
“He was a bon vivant. He had a big heart and a beautiful personality,” she praises him.
“My sister was appreciated by everyone,” she told Journal Dreanna Michel, regarding her sister Amyrah. She always knew how to do what was best for her daughter. She had a loud, contagious laugh, and was very colorful in her character. »

Investigation
Furthermore, as alcohol and distraction might be involved in this case, Joanie Doiron wants to educate drivers to exercise caution.
“If I can be the voice of the two people who died, I will do anything. I regret not offering to take the wheel,” she says.
The Sûreté du Québec confirms that there were four occupants in the car.
“The investigation continues,” indicates his sergeant Hugues Beaulieu.
