The death toll among Egyptians residing in Libya as a result of Storm “Daniel” has risen to 250, according to what was revealed by the International Organization for Migration’s office in Libya.

The office explained that the deaths occurred in Derna, specifically in an area near the city’s flood stream, where the floods completely destroyed the residential area, according to damage statistics from the organization’s teams obtained by the “Sky News Arabia” website.

On Tuesday, Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Counselor Ahmed Abu Zaid confirmed the death of Egyptians in Libya as a result of the floods and torrents that befell the eastern region there, and the ministry is still clarifying the specific number of victims on the Libyan side.

74 bodies of the victims arrived at the Biba Center in Beni Suef Governorate, south of Cairo, according to what was reported by a number of Egyptian media outlets.

A tragic scene in Derna

In Derna, the area most affected by Daniel, searches for missing persons and the recovery of bodies continue for the second day in a row.

The head of the Information Office of the Ministry of Interior in the government appointed by the House of Representatives, Muhammad Abu Lamoucha, said that the number of missing people exceeded eight thousand.

Initial estimates show that the number of deaths exceeds five thousand, but so far 2,800 deaths have been officially recorded, according to Abu Lamoucha, who is in the city to follow up on the operations to count the victims and damages.

Data from the Organization for Migration revealed that the floods caused the displacement of 30,000 people in the city of Derna, in addition to 6,000 others, including 3,000 in the city of Al-Bayda, and 1,000 in the village of Al-Mukhaili, located between Derna and Benghazi, which also witnessed the displacement of 2,085 people.
