DANLÍ, EL PARAÍSO.- In their difficult journey in search of the American dream, Venezuelan migrants cross Central America facing a series of obstacles. One of these challenges is the journey through the Darién jungle, a region located between Colombia and Panama. Among the migrants who have experienced this odyssey is the family of Don Eduardo Ramón Macho, who, with three girls on his shoulders -one with microcephaly-, shared with El Heraldo the horrors they experienced during this nightmare.
“I left (Venezuela) 15 days ago. I come with my wife and my three daughters,” said Don Ramón, who currently remains in Danlí, El Paraíso, in the east of the country.
“We crossed the Darién, I carried her (her youngest daughter with microcephaly) like a kangaroo. Rainwater fell on us, she gave me a fever. In Nicaragua I fell off a bus, the door opened and I got out, I’m scraped here and on my back,” she said as she exposed her scars to the camera.

In addition, Don Ramón shared that, together with his family, they are in Danlí, in eastern Honduras, where they are raising the money necessary to pay for their transportation to Guatemala. This step is essential on your journey towards the goal of reaching American soil.
Don Ramón’s wife, Doña Josefina Rodríguez, an elderly person, also crossed the Darién with her other daughter, regarding four years old, on her shoulders. “Due to the rains, our clothes have gotten wet and we have had to throw them away, including our diapers,” she explained.
Danlí continues to host thousands of Venezuelan migrants and other nations who long to achieve the “American dream,” but first, they face an inhumane nightmare.

Just like Don Ramón, other Venezuelans hope that good-hearted Hondurans can offer them a helping hand to collect economic resources on their way to the United States.
In the midst of this crisis, Honduran transporters lent 5 buses to take the migrants who were in the Monumento a la Madre park to the border with Guatemala. More than 300 migrants benefited.
