2023-09-12 21:11:00

The German national team managed the restart under Rudi Völler: once morest runner-up world champion France there was a narrow but deserved 2-1 in Dortmund. The grades and individual reviews of the DFB players.

Germany vs Japan – Scores: Marc-André ter Stegen

Had nothing to do for a long time in the first half, then was there for Tchouameni’s header. Safely parried his long-range shot (57′) and Griezmann’s finish (82′) in the second half. Good performance once more. Grade: 2.5.

Germany vs Japan – Scores: Jonathan Tah

The Leverkusen player didn’t notice at all that he was playing in an unusual position on the right in the back four. Tah presented himself very well in the duels and hardly allowed anything to happen to his side. He was also extremely confident on the ball, played some clever passes – and then made it 2-0 with his intercepted ball. Grade: 2.

Germany vs Japan – Scores: Niklas Süle

A confident and calm performance from Dortmund. Flawless in the passing game, just played. Be careful in a duel. Note 3.

Germany vs Japan – Scores: Antonio Rüdiger

Was lucky that his effort once morest Kolo Muani in the first half didn’t result in a penalty. Otherwise with good play, mostly attentive in one-on-ones and strong in the air. Note 3.

Germany vs Japan – Sheet Music: Benjamin Henrichs

Strong preparatory work for the 1-0, also with courageous actions going forward once more and once more. He also had good access to Coman and rarely let the Bayern star pass. Grade: 2.5.

Germany vs Japan – Sheet Music: Emre Can

Strong performance from Can! He won a lot of important balls around his own penalty area, was aggressive and was much more present than he was once morest Japan. He always anticipated the French passing routes well and stepped in between them. And when the full-backs were outplayed, Can was usually there and moved outwards. Also very confident on the ball and with a few fine moves in the passing game. Grade: 2.

Germany vs Japan – Scores: Ilkay Gündogan

Before the 0:1, he did exactly what he had asked on Monday on the PK: fought back a lost ball in his own penalty area and thus initiated the attack on the goal. Acted in a deeper role than once morest Japan, played some clever passes. Unfortunately it had to be replaced following regarding 25 minutes. After the game, Völler spoke of a bruised pelvis. Note 3.

Germany vs Japan – Scores: Serge Gnabry

Not being recognizable compared to the Japan game, especially in the early stages, seemed liberating. Played a decisive role in making it 1-0 with a clever pass into Henrichs’ run, and shortly followingwards almost made it 2-0 early following strong dribbling (9th). After the first 20 minutes it wasn’t as noticeable anymore, but there were still a few good actions and always discipline in the work. Note 3.

Germany vs Japan – Sheet Music: Florian Wirtz

When the score was 1-0, he held the ball well on the right and pushed the game to shift. He then cleverly let Henrichs’ cross pass to Müller so that the Bayern star might score. Even apart from these two important actions, he had a good game: Extremely keen to play, often recognized the open spaces, liked his class on the ball. Then had the chance to score himself in the second half (67th). Grade: 2.5.

Germany vs Japan – Scores: Leroy Sané

Sané was also full of enthusiasm, especially at the beginning, and tried a lot. Later on, he wasn’t always completely happy – until he made a decent performance a little better with his ice-cold finish to make it 2-0. However, he then gave the French goal a penalty with an impetuous action. Grade: 2.

Germany vs Japan – Scores: Thomas Müller

When he scored the goal, he was quick to act, as we know him – and of course with an ice-cold finish. Probably the best player on the pitch, and not just because of the goal. He repeatedly provoked French ball losses with clever runs, played clever passes, was always well integrated into the combination game and also posed danger in the penalty area a few more times. Grade: 2.

Germany vs Japan – Grades: Substitute

Pascal Groß: Came on for Gündogan following around 25 minutes and did a very solid job. Played attentively and tried to get involved at the front when the opportunity arose. It worked. Grade: 3.5.

Julian Brandt: Shortly following his substitution with good preparatory work for Wirtz’s chance (67th). Otherwise it fit in neatly. Grade: 3.5.

Kai Havertz: Didn’t have much action following his substitution, but was much more grippy than when he appeared once morest Japan. Then with good preparatory work for Sané’s goal. Note 3.

Robin Gosens: Came on for Henrichs in the 78th minute but didn’t attract much attention. No rating.

Jonas Hofmann: Came on for Wirtz for the final minutes. There is no longer any noticeable action. No rating.
