More than a week following the death of actor Jean Paul d’Almeida who died following a traffic accident, the truck driver behind the incident gave a chilling story, reported by the newspaper The Observer.
“My name is Chérif S. I am a truck driver engaged in the Rapid Transit Bus (Brt) project. On the day of the tragedy, I was at the wheel of my dump truck and I was carrying out my duties. » declared the driver, currently in detention.

According to him, ” The accident in question occurred on the night of Tuesday August 29 to Wednesday August 30, 2023. It was around 3 a.m. when, aboard my truck, I found myself near the ‘Yellow Bakery’. After passing the roundregardings of the large crossroads, I took the road which leads to the Keur Gorgui city and which runs alongside the new Brt track currently under construction. »
He adds : ” It should be noted that while traveling along this section, motorists are faced with poor visibility due to the absence of public lighting, linked to the road works in progress on this section. After passing the roundregarding which separates the city of Keur Gorgui from Sacré Coeur, I took the downward slope which leads to the roundregarding which faces the Collège Sacré-Cœur. »

“At this location, there is no public lighting and in the darkness, I did not see in time the taxi which had suddenly stopped on the right side, opposite the said circle -point. When I realized that the taxi had stopped, I maneuvered, but there was no avoiding it. » , the truck driver said.
« At the time of the accident, the truck had no technical fault and I was provided with all the documents (in order) relating to its driving. This is how the truck violently hit and damaged the rear part of the taxi » , he continues.

“After the accident, we realized that the customer, who was in the back seat of the taxi, had visibly suffered the shock. He was in pain, but he was conscious and he spoke with us, before being taken to Grand-Yoff hospital. Subsequently, I learned that he was evacuated to Fann Hospital,” he continued.
