According to The Athletic newspaper, James, a two-time Olympic champion and four-time NBA champion, is in the process of recruiting his fellow NBA stars for the United States squad that is seeking to win a fifth consecutive gold medal in France.
ESPN reported that Curry, who won the NBA title four times with the Golden State Warriors, expressed his desire to play on the Olympic team, also led by his coach, Steve Kerr.
This news comes the day following the American team, consisting of 20 players from the league’s stars, bid farewell to the Basketball World Cup empty-handed following losing to Canada in the match for third place and the bronze medal, following being eliminated from the competition for the title in the semi-finals once morest Germany, which later won the tournament at the expense of Serbia.
James, 38, led the United States to win the Olympic gold medal in Beijing in 2008 and in London in 2012, but he has not played since then.
But he knows how difficult it is to lose on the world stage, as he was a reserve in the United States squad in 2004 when it won bronze at the Athens Olympics, and the 2006 team that also won bronze at the World Cup in Saudi Arabia.
James is not only interested in playing for the Olympic gold medal in Paris, but he has invited his NBA teammates Curry and Kevin Durant, hoping to encourage them to play in 2024.
According to “The Athletic”, James included his Los Angeles Lakers teammate Anthony Davis, Draymond Green from Golden State, and Jayson Tatum from Boston, while “EABN” indicated interest in Devin Booker from Phoenix. Suns and Golden State’s Chris Paul join the lineup.
