Double Homicide Tragedy in Marchienne-au-Pont: Arrest Warrant Issued for 22-Year-Old Suspect

The 22-year-old young man suspected of having committed a double homicide late Sunday in Marchienne-au-Pont (Charleroi, Hainaut) was placed under arrest warrant by the investigating judge, said Monday evening the Charleroi public prosecutor’s office. The individual, who planned to take a train to reach France, was arrested in Brussels.

Sunday, around 5:40 p.m., the emergency services and the police intervened at number 20 rue de Forêt in Marchienne-au-Pont. The father, bloodied, was discovered on the ground floor of the family home. “He directly indicated to the police that there might be two dead people in the attic,” explained prosecutor Di Vincenzo during a press conference. The bodies of two people were discovered in the attic. “It concerns the mother, aged 50, and the younger brother, who was 17 years old. It appears that the suspect, aged 22, attacked these two victims with a knife. There was a lot of blood there.”

The father, seriously injured, was taken to hospital where his life is no longer in danger. The latter was the victim of an alarm pistol shot and pushed from the top of the stairs. The suspect, aged 22 and unknown to the courts, was deprived of his liberty in Brussels. “Telephone and bank tracing made it possible to find his trace. He planned to take a train to reach France,” added substitute Di Vincenzo.

A student at UMons, the man spoke of personal and family concerns regarding the motive for the double homicide. Presented at the end of the day to the investigating judge, the suspect was placed under arrest warrant.
