No more phishing emails with bad spelling. “Cybercriminals are becoming more and more professional”points out Kevin Heydon, delegate for digital security Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur of ANSSI [Agence nationale de la sécurité des systèmes d’information].
Worse, more than 40% of reports of ransomware attacks received by the national agency in 2022 concern non-strategic VSEs/SMEs and ETIs, that is to say which are not in sectors of vital importance nor in services essential to the proper functioning of the country.
A situation which therefore concerns all the partners of the Côte d’Azur Eco who are meeting tomorrow, Tuesday September 12, in Nice to reflect on the problem: are the companies sufficiently armed?
Especially since the current unstable geopolitical context and the major sporting events such as the Rugby World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games will provide attackers with numerous opportunities to do harm.
Prevention, detection and response
Lure of profit, espionage, destabilization, political message or edutainment challenge… Whatever the motivations of cybercriminals – business leaders, for their part, must prepare and know how to react.
For Kevin Heydon, the right attitude logically begins with prevention “by adopting good IT hygiene and raising employee awareness. Humans are both a vulnerability and the ultimate defense once morest cyberattacks.”
Protect yes but what? Only the business owner knows what needs to be secured, why and the level of acceptable risk. “It’s a business question,” confirms the regional delegate.
And then, once the victim of a cyberattack, how to react? Should computers be turned off? Unplug wifi? Who to call? Where to file a complaint? Do you have to pay for ransomware?
“Managing an attack alone is complicated; it is interesting to identify digital security players who can help the day… Because at this precise moment, the business manager will want to restore his service as quickly as possible to continue his economic activity, while ensuring that its IT system is secure.” All these points will be discussed this Tuesday during the Côte d’Azur Eco meeting.
