The man, recognized as co-perpetrator of the attacks, reaffirmed that he was not aware of what was being prepared and claimed that it was his media coverage which had pushed the jury to find him guilty.

“To begin with, I would like to address the victims: do not believe everything you have been told in the media. I had empathy for you, I questioned myself,” assured the thirty-year-old.

“I participated on November 13, in (the shooting on rue du) Dries, I said what I did and what I did not do. Here, I told you that you do not You’re not my victims, I was perhaps clumsy”, he then justified. “But I did not participate in March 22, I did not know the project. The question arises”, continued Salah Abdeslam, addressing the jury. “But you are not professional magistrates, to err is human and I am Salah Abdeslam. (…) You condemned someone who did not deserve it. What I would like is for us to judges me like the others. I ask you to be fair in this last decision.”

And the man concludes for the victims. “I don’t know how I might console you, help you. I don’t have the words for you. I still hope that what I said will help you a little in your reconstruction process.”
