Domestic workers who fled Saudi Arabia cannot legally work under other sponsors, officials said. The law does not allow the change of sponsorship of domestic workers in the Hurub case. Application for legal sponsorship change should be made through the Musanid platform.
The Musanid Platform for Domestic Workers has clarified that the sponsorship of domestic workers, including domestic workers who have absconded from the workplace i.e. domestic workers in the Hurub case, cannot be changed. It is illegal to abscond from the workplace and work elsewhere. There is no provision for transfer of sponsorship of absconders to any other employer.
Sponsorship of domestic workers can be easily transferred from one sponsor to another. One of the important conditions for this is that the worker should not fall under the Hurub case. Along with this, other standards set by the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development should also be followed. Sponsorship can be changed through Musanid website.

The Ministry gave permission to change the sponsorship of domestic workers on August 1 last. The job is easily transferable from one person to another. It takes regarding 23 days to complete the process following submitting the application for change of sponsorship.
