Celtic culture was in the spotlight this weekend on the occasion of the 17e edition of the Quebec Celtic Festival, which, once once more this year, allowed many festival-goers to immerse themselves in a piece of history through a host of activities.
If the weather didn’t know what to do over the weekend, the fans knew. There were many of them with the good weather on Saturday at Domaine Maizerets, but they also showed that they had the heart to party despite the gloomy weather on Friday and Sunday.

“We can truly say that it’s mission accomplished. I say it every year, but once once more, I have the impression that it was our best edition,” underlines the general director of the festival, Cynthia Hovington.
If festival-goers were present in such large numbers every day, there is no doubt that the busy schedule had something to do with it.
Going from culture with the show by Yves Lambert, former member of La Bottinesourise, to sports with the Highland Games, while making sure to satisfy beer lovers with the pub crawl, there was really something for all tastes this weekend.
“Even the gourmands have been served,” says Ms. Hovington, laughing.

“There was really a great diversity of activities and what happens is that many plan to come for a quick one-hour tour, but when they see the atmosphere, they end up staying for the whole day” , she adds.

The Highland Games, another great success
Once once more this year, it was the Highland Games that attracted the largest crowds, welcoming spectators and athletes from across Canada.
These Scottish games, which date back several centuries, aim to test the physical strength of athletes.

“Year following year, it’s truly a programming element that is part of the festival’s DNA. It’s very popular, very identity-building and it allows us to welcome people from everywhere,” explains the general director of the event.
“It was the Canadian championship and it’s surprising how many people it can attract. Saturday was definitely the biggest crowd we have ever welcomed for the games,” she explains.

The latter also concluded by emphasizing that nothing would be possible without the community of passionate believers who have developed a feeling of belonging. She also considers that this is “the greatest strength of the festival”, because it allows it to maintain its identity.
