The Italian fashion house has just entered into a long-term partnership with the Clooney Foundation for Justice with the aim of supporting The Albies event which rewards people who have worked for equality, fairness and human rights.
Versace continues its societal and human commitments
While Jacquemus put his name on a t-shirt whose profits will be donated to a fund for the island of Maui and its inhabitants who are victims of violent fires, Versace is also uniting with a humanitarian organization. And it is with the Clooney Foundation for Justice – CFJ – how this commitment is illustrated.
Versace signed a multi-year partnership with the entity founded by lawyer Amal Clooney and actor George Clooney which fights for justice, equality and respect for human rights. Through this collaboration, the brand will become the main partner of The Albies ceremony. The event, organized every year, aims to honor the work carried out by personalities in search of justice and equity. The name of this award ceremony refers to judge Albie Sachs, known for his decisive role in the end of apartheid in South Africa.
The winners have already been chosen from five categories: lCongolese doctor and gynecologist Denis Mukwege for the Lifetime Achievement Award; journalists Niloofar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi for the Justice for Women Prize; the Ukrainian NGO Truth Hounds for the Justice for Survivors Prize; the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression for the Justice for Journalists Award; and, finally, a group of Thai human rights lawyers for the Justice for Democracy Defenders Award.
The awards will be presented later this month at a ceremony at the New York Public Library, attended by Amal and George Clooney, Ford Foundation President Darren Walker, public figures including Meryl Streep, Alicia Keys and Matt Damon, and in the company of partner brands like Versace.
“We firmly believe that it is necessary to forge a community of allies to succeed in achieving justice and protecting human rights. Versace’s commitment to equality, including its active support for the rights of LGBTQ+ people, encourage us to continue the good fightt” said Amal and George Clooney.
Versace’s commitment to equality, from which its own foundation stems, is not new and meets the expectations of a large part of its customers. For example, it has materialized through collections for the benefit of associations and audiovisual content on female empowerment. And to learn more regarding the rise and DNA of the house, the documentary “Versace, blood ties” is currently available on Arte.
