Hamburg (ots) Day two of the Hamburg Cruise Days 2023: In wonderful late summer weather, tens of thousands of people flocked to the harbor to satisfy their longing for the sea, to be inspired and to experience the highlight of the event – the Great Hamburg Cruise Days Parade on Saturday evening.

Summer, sun, Hamburg Cruise Days: This year these three simply belong together. After the cruise festival deliberately took place on a smaller scale last year, the event is back in full size in 2023 – with an attractive and diverse maritime land program of culture and entertainment, culinary delights and travel information, exciting highlights on the water and the real stars of the event: the cruise ships.

The most beautiful variety – and the spectacular highlight of the event

With a total of nine very different ships over three days – from classic cruise giants to expedition ships to river cruise ships – this year the Hamburg Cruise Days can offer the most beautiful variety. At the Great Hamburg Cruise Days Parade on Saturday evening, five of these ships lined up one behind the other on the Elbe: AIDAprima, followed by Mein Schiff 6, VASCO DA GAMA, WORLD VOYAGER and MS Sans Souci.

Against the atmospheric backdrop of the Blue Port Hamburg, accompanied by music and moderated by Hamburg actor Marek Erhardt, the parade then moved down the Elbe – to the enthusiasm of tens of thousands of people, some of whom had gathered at the edge of the harbor hours before. The parade was led by AIDAprima, each of the following ships received its own impressive fireworks sequence – and another spectacular fireworks display over the Elbe was the crowning finale of the evening.

Great enthusiasm for the cruise

The lively response from the audience shows that Hamburg and cruises belong together. Co-organizer Katja Derow, redroses communications: “We are pleased that the enthusiasm for this atmospheric event is unbroken. The Hamburg Cruise Days, with its highlights such as the Rhapsody in Blue or the Great Hamburg Cruise Days Parade, are an experience for all the senses, that invites people to satisfy their longing for the sea and traveling at sea.” Co-organizer Uwe Bergmann, uba GmbH, is satisfied with the first two days of the event: “The fact that our concept appeals to so many people once more following years of the pandemic and that we receive a lot of positive feedback from visitors confirms our expectations high quality of this event.”

Enjoy another day of cruise feeling: Sunday

For AIDAprima, Mein Schiff 6, VASCO DA GAMA and WORLD VOYAGER it was time to say goodbye to Hamburg with or shortly following the parade; MS Sans Souci followed on Sunday morning.

On Sunday evening, however, the guests of the Hamburg Cruise Days can and should wave their handkerchiefs or cell phones goodbye once more: During the “AIDA Sailaway”, AIDAsol and AIDAperla leave the port of Hamburg together – waving to ships is then a must for all cruise fans. The land program ends on Sunday at 8 p.m., and the Blue Port Hamburg lights up until midnight.

The Hamburg Cruise Week in September 2023

From September 4th to 10th, 2023, the metropolis of Hamburg welcomes not only the general public, but also industry professionals: For the fourth time, the Hanseatic city is bringing together its cruise-themed events and will once once more become the stage for major cruise events. This unique cruise week will kick off with the Ports and Destination Summit of the world’s largest cruise association CLIA (September 4th/5th), followed by the two trade fairs Seatrade Europe and Marine Interiors (both September 6th – 8th). Seatrade Europe is the leading event for the entire European cruise and river cruise industry; Marine Interiors is Europe’s first independent trade fair for interior design, equipment and technology for passenger ships. The crowning conclusion of the week is the Hamburg Cruise Days (September 8-10). With this combination of specialist events and public event, Hamburg will once once more become a hotspot for the entire cruise world in September 2023.

About the BLUE PORT HAMBURG

Since 2008, the light artwork BLUE PORT HAMBURG by light artist Michael Batz has been bathing the nighttime harbor in a magical blue light before and during the Hamburg Cruise Days and illuminating dozens of objects in and around the port of Hamburg. This creates a connection between port and city, between land and river and – on the event weekend – between the cruisers and the guests of the Hamburg Cruise Days.
