In the followingnoon, the police stopped another tractor vehicle near Altenfelden (Rohrbach district). Nine adults and six children were discovered in the back of the van, according to initial information. The smuggler was arrested and those dragged were taken to the police detention center in Linz.

The Upper Austrian police are currently catching a smuggler at regular intervals along the B127. Seven such cases have become known within 20 days. The Upper Austrian State Police Department has responded to the new challenges, said police spokesman David Furtner in an interview with OÖNachrichten. The focus checks are currently being carried out on the main traffic routes towards Germany. And this with “double to three times the number of the previous emergency services,” said Furtner.

Tugboat on the B127 – a chronology:

  • August 22nd – Transporter stopped in Puchenau: The series of stopped smuggler transports in Upper Austria began on Tuesday two weeks ago on the B127 Rohrbacher Straße in Puchenau in the Urfahr-Raum district: The immigration police officers stopped a box truck in which there were 19 people. Those dragged came mainly from Turkey. The trafficker was arrested. The vehicle occupants who entered the country illegally, on the other hand, had to – as is usual in such cases – first undergo an immigration check.
  • August 27th – Linz-Urfahr: 55 migrants in trucks: After a journey lasting around nine hours, on the morning of August 27th, a flatbed truck with a Polish license plate was stopped in front of a refugee home on Rudolfstrasse in the Urfahr-Raum district: 53 refugees were sitting next to it, crammed into the loading area, without sanitary facilities and with defective ventilation the driver two more. Those dragged were mainly Kurds of Turkish origin and two Afghans. Among them were eight women and 15 children and young people.
  • August 31st – Linz: Smuggler truck with 20 migrants: At around eight o’clock last Thursday in Linz, a box truck was stopped in front of the Westring bridge construction site on the Rohrbacher Bundesstrasse towards Puchenau. The driver, a 33-year-old Georgian citizen, was arrested. Witnesses reported that at least two people ran away towards the Danube. There were 20 people on board, including nine children. The inmates were Turkish citizens. The smuggler transport was probably on its way to Germany.
  • September 4th – Picked up at Rottenegg: A panel van in the so-called Saurüssel was noticed at the beginning of the week on the B127 between Rottenegg and Lacken. When stopped, the smugglers were able to escape into a forest, leaving a total of 38 people being dragged behind. According to the police, 20 of them are Iraqi citizens, ten come from Turkey, seven of those dragged are Syrian citizens and one man comes from Afghanistan. Seven children – the youngest is only one year old – accompanied their parents on the dangerous journey.
  • September 5th – Klaffer am Hochficht: Last Tuesday a tractor vehicle was also on its way through the Mühlviertel. In Klaffer am Hochficht (Rohrbach district), several people were dropped off from a small truck, and law enforcement officers were able to pick up seven of them shortly followingwards. In this case too, it is said that the majority were Kurds. In total, there are said to have been up to 30 people in the truck. Some of the suspected smugglers were initially still on the run.
  • September 9th – Ottensheim: On Saturday, a box truck carrying 14 illegal migrants and a chauffeur was stopped in Ottensheim. The next day the next tug was to be stopped in Altenfelden.
