After a couple of weeks following what happened in the World Cup, Luis Rubiales confessed that he will resign from his position as president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). And following being suspended by FIFA for 90 days from his position, Rubiales announced that he will present his resignation following kissing Jenni Hermoso at the Women’s World Cup medal ceremony.
“I’m going to do it, of course I can’t continue with my work […]. They know it’s not regarding me. Some very close friends of mine told me ‘Luis, now you have to focus on your dignity and continue with your life; If not, you’re probably going to hurt the people you love and the sport you love,’” she declared in an interview in London with Piers Morgan.
Likewise, Luis Rubiales considered that following the procedures opened once morest him he will not be able to return to his position and that part of his decision was to contribute to the World Cup being held in Spain in 2030.
“Resignation? Yes, I have to do it because I can’t continue my work. “I make this decision following having made sure that my departure will contribute to the stability that will allow us to bring the 2030 World Cup to our country,” he said.

After the interview came to light, Luis Rubiales published a letter on his social networks announcing that he had submitted his resignation as president of the RFEF and from his position at UEFA as vice-presidency.
“Insisting on waiting and clinging to it is not going to contribute anything positive, neither to the Federation nor to Spanish football. Among other things, because there are de facto powers that will prevent my return. There is the management of my team and, above all, the happiness that I have for the enormous privilege of these more than 5 years at the head of the RFEF,” he wrote.
