Baron Paul-Emmanuel Janssen, former president of Générale de Banque, died this Sunday, his family announces. He will be buried in family privacy.

Born on February 22, 1931, Paul-Emmanuel Janssen obtained a Doctor of Law degree from the Université Libre de Bruxelles and began his career as a banker at JP Morgan before joining the Société Belge de Banque, which later merged with the Bank of Société Générale de Belgique and the Bank of Antwerp to form Société Générale de Banque. He became president in 1988 and chairman of the board of directors in 1992.

He resigned from all his functions at the bank during the takeover by the Fortis group.

During his career, Paul-Emmanuel Janssen was also a director of several companies including Solvay, Atlas Copco Sweden, Antwerpse Diamant Bank, Belgian Bank – London, Banque Européenne de Crédit à Medium Term, Banque Euro Arabe, Union Financière Boël and Groupe Lhoist.
