“It was everywhere on the plane”: a flight to Barcelona forced to turn around because of a passenger who had “explosive” diarrhea

After two hours of flight, the Airbus A350 turned around and landed urgently on the runways of Atlanta airport, as reported by Le journal de Montréal.

“This is a health risk problem,” the pilot explained to the air traffic controller, in a recording shared on the social network X (formerly Twitter) and reported by the New York Post.

The man involved was ill and suffering from so-called “explosive” diarrhea, which meant that he was unable to reach the toilet before it started. The corridor of a large part of the plane was therefore soiled with excrement.

The plane returned to Atlanta, all passengers were evacuated, and the patient was treated by medical personnel on the airport tarmac. Airline teams then cleaned the plane and even completely replaced the carpet in the plane’s main aisle which had been soiled.

After several hours of waiting, the passengers were able to leave on the plane, all clean and arrived at their destination eight hours late.
