Political Parties’ Comeback: Campaign Diary for the 2024 Elections

2023-09-10 18:33:17

Since the beginning of September, political parties have been making their comeback. Here is our campaign diary in view of the federal, regional and European elections in June 2024, followed by the municipal elections in October.

Campaign notebook episode 3, this weekend was the back-to-school congress for several political parties. On the right, the N-VA has reimagined the future of Flanders in an amusement park. The MR preferred the beaches of Lake Eau d’Heure. “Today, these are summer universities, we work on the background“, says Georges-Louis Bouchez in front of the camera… even if the presentation of the new party logo also occupied an important place.

On the far left, the PTB is also in beach mode, those of Ostend. And in the center, where we don’t really know, DéFI wants a fairer Belgium.

Surrealism à la Van Quickenborne

The man of the week is undoubtedly Vincent Van Quickenborne, the federal Minister of Justice. The man literally treated himself to the entire French press. In the show “Quotidien”, the presenter imitates our minister who mimes a gesture appearing to be that of urinating. All other French shows followed suit. In short, it’s the new Belgian joke fashionable in France.

This same subject gave rise to a surreal scene: the Minister of Justice watching with journalists the images of the Minister of Justice drunk at his birthday party.
Even more surreal: the same minister who shows the same images in parliament because the deputies summoned him urgently.

Pipigate was the unalterable source of inspiration in the media space this week. To the point that Flemish radio presenters took up the subject to make a song regarding it.

Bart De Wever is back

Let’s continue with the ghost of the week: it’s Bart De Wever. It’s been a long time ! In his bag, Bart De Wever returned with confederalism. The mayor of Antwerp is still fiercely anti-social-ecological-communism. He even tells us regarding Paul Magnette, who would have been on the verge of saying yes to the end of the country. “He doesn’t want to be called a traitor. But I remember all our talks in 2020 in Antwerp. On July 11 in Antwerp, we had a fairly open discussion on this“, declared Bart De Wever this week in the show Les Puncheurs on RTL TVI.

Confirmation by Louis Michel this Sunday in the show Face à Buxant. “Mr. Magnette and Mr. De Wever went very far in an agreement, which would in fact separate the country and which would in this case throw Wallonia into extreme poverty“, he said.

The network campaign

And then, we leave with the photos of the week seen on the networks.

A debate organized by Le Soir between the different party presidents. Georges-Louis Bouchez is well surrounded:

The PTB bus on its big tour to look for ideas for the campaign. It’s a bad start:

The police suit equipped with a urinal, available for your birthday parties.

And finally the new version of Manneken Pis, unmissable for tourists.

Come on, there are 273 days until the election. From now on: good vote!
