Almost a year ago, Georges Briand, the Breton retiree who wastes the time of telephone canvassers, made the front page of Pays Malouin. On our Actu.fr site, the article dedicated to him has been read more than 1.7 million times.
“I didn’t dare contact you by phone…”
In the process, his funny fight once morest incessant requests was found on dozens of information sites. He has also given interviews on Hit West, CNews and even to a magazine specializing in… customer relations!
He also received a few supportive phone calls and even a letter from a lady in the Paris region thanking him. With a postscript: “I did not dare to contact you by telephone…”
500 euros in gifts
In short, with such media coverage, one would have thought that the call centers were going to blacklist his number. Not even: in eleven months, he received another 300.
On Wednesday August 30, 2023, he celebrated, so to speak, the 2,000th commercial or pseudo-commercial call on his landline since May 2019. He came from a company which, to celebrate its 5th anniversary, offered him 500 euros of gifts.
As usual, Georges Briand responded without giving up.
Normally, gifts are given to those celebrating their birthday… Here, it’s the opposite: it smacks of a scam.
Georges Briand to a canvasser
The conversation ended, as quite regularly, with an insult. “She called me an asshole. »

“I live in a caravan”
We had barely passed the door of the Briand house when the telephone rang.
It’s a classic, yet banned since July 2020: a proposal for insulation work and photovoltaic panels.
“I live in a caravan, it’s going to be complicated,” retorts the mischievous retiree, reminding him that his call is illegal. The exchange lasts three minutes.
This time, the interlocutor, who just claims to “inform”, ends up apologizing for the inconvenience!
Silence then… “goodbye”
Georges Briand is not very tender, however. Annoyed by the pre-recorded calls that start with 4 seconds of silence and end with a ‘Goodbye’, “I called the number once more and found lights. I harassed them in the evening… I called ten times saying… ‘goodbye’ in the same tone! »
Our man takes great pleasure in this watered sprinkler game. His wife Joëlle laughs a little less regarding it. She tends to not answer or hang up. “It’s better that they fall on me, it won’t last as long!” »

“Half as many calls”
Each time, Georges Briand scrupulously notes the number. The use of 06 or 07 is supposedly prohibited. However, there are still a few in the endless list of the Breton retiree.
Since March 1, 2023, telephone canvassing is only authorized from Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. It is prohibited on weekends and public holidays.
So, yes, there is something better regarding Georges Briand:
My feeling is that there are at least half as many calls.
At midday, and on weekends, too, things have really calmed down. Not enough to soften our retiree: “What would be nice is if there weren’t any more at all! »
