The co-owners of Bistro-Auberge Chez Truchon inaugurated the new restaurant located right next door on September 7: L’Île Mystérieure, inspired by the world of Jules Verne, houses an entire space dedicated to the famous writer.

The creator of the project, Jacquelin Bouchard, was not content with a simple lounge and tapas bar concept. In fact, from the start, he wanted to open a small museum dedicated to this adventure novelist in La Malbaie. “We added the restaurant concept to make it profitable,” he admits bluntly.

Mr. Bouchard has had a long career as a television producer and has always greatly admired the work of the French writer, which has been widely adapted for both the small and big screens. “He is the second most translated author in the world following Agatha Christie. I consider him an influencer. He wrote novels of creation and confidence in the future,” he adds.

The businessman draws a parallel between the explorers, heroes of Jules Verne’s novels, and people who found a business, who encounter all kinds of difficulties. “We must have faith in the future! », he repeats with a smile.

Jacquelin Bouchard collected artifacts related to Jules Verne and his works for around ten years. The vast majority come from France, where the author is from. It is a collection of around 200 artifacts which are now exhibited at the Espace Jules Verne. In a few weeks, an online catalog will be available to obtain more information on each object.

With this new concept, the L’Île Mystérieuse team hopes to offer a different offer in Charlevoix. “There is an element of dream (in this project), but also because I love this region,” concludes Jacquelin Bouchard.

Posters of works by Jules Verne adorn the walls of the space dedicated to him.
