Strengthen the paramedical managerial line

2023-09-07 12:22:02

Develop the feeling of belonging to the same paramedical managerial line. This is the objective set by the National Association of Health Executives (Ancim) and the French Association of Care Directors (AFDS). In a forum – the fruit of the work of a group of around ten professional managers and care directors – the two organizations encourage their members to pass “ from individual to group« .

This work began with a survey* of executives “on their feeling of belonging and solidarity with their care director”, explained the president of Ancim, Dominique Combarnous, to Hospimedia. This inventory of collaboration between the different professions – care director, senior health manager (CSS), health manager (CS), etc. – showed “ a distance from the care director and a lack of trust“, explains the president of Ancim. The investigation also showed “ positioning ambiguities“, continues the president of the AFDS, Laurence Laignel

To improve communication within the paramedical managerial line, according to this forum, several principles can be implemented in the managerial project:
– Promote regularity and clarity: a commitment to ensuring periodic meetings, allowing time for questions/answers and discussions, monitoring reports, updates (emails etc.), telephone calls, etc.
– Encourage and make a commitment to listen to each other: to improve mutual understanding of the concerns and points of view of each party with attention, respect and open-mindedness
– Clarify objectives (SMART): regarding the roles and responsibilities of each person, and avoiding misunderstandings
– Foster a culture of feedback and recognize everyone’s contributions
– Establish announcements at regular intervals and using multiple media: providing facts, figures, promoting, etc.

Multiple supports can be used to promote internal commitment and talent:
– Modernized meeting times: for example, 2 meetings/year organized only by the CSS and CS (agenda), move the meeting locations, involve the IFCS (Health Executive Training Institute)
– The creation of an internal journal reserved for the paramedical managerial line
– Creation of videos and/or podcasts
