“It was crazy” – ski stars have to cancel their training camp
In order to ideally prepare for the new season, ski stars travel to South America year following year. But the weather there was crazy.

But things didn’t go according to plan for the French.
The new ski season starts at the end of October with the giant slalom in Sölden. Until then, the best skiers in the world are still working on their ideal form. An overseas training camp in Chile or Argentina is particularly popular, where it is currently winter and the ski areas are open, while in Switzerland, for example, temperatures are still around 30 degrees.
The French speed team also jetted to Chile to do some training runs on snow. The French set up their quarters in Nevados de Chillan. However, the ski stars might have saved themselves the trip, as downhill skier Adrien Theaux revealed on social networks. The French speed team canceled the training camp once more. “The weather conditions were catastrophic,” wrote the veteran, who explained that he found better training opportunities in Europe.

Xavier Fournier-Bidoz, the head of the French speed group, told Le Dauphine why the speed team left early. «It was crazy. When we arrived it was good. We went skiing for a day off to get in shape. But then the catastrophe,” says Fournier-Bidoz. “The first three days there was torrential rain,” said the coach. After that, almost one and a half meters of new snow fell in three days. “Apart from a few turns in powder snow, it was impossible to train under these conditions,” was the summary.
But the return journey to France also turned out to be more than difficult, as flights had to be found at short notice for the entire entourage and material. By the way: The Swiss ski cracks are also in South America. In contrast to the French, Odermatt and Co. completed their training camp without any problems.
