This weekend takes place the inauguration, with great fanfare, of the end of the work on the Upper Town of Charleroi.
A mammoth project which lasted 2 and a half years and cost over 40 million euros, partly financed by Europe as part of the FEDER program. A new campus, renovated squares, renovated neighborhoods.
The emblematic squares, Place Charles 2 where the Town Hall is located and Place du Manège opposite the Palais des Beaux-Arts, have benefited from a complete facelift. All around the boulevards and streets have been redesigned with considerable space for pedestrian traffic and soft mobility.
But what do the main stakeholders think of these new developments?
Cédric Dolores is a restaurateur from father to son: “I think this work was necessary. Many businesses were closed, others are opening. I hope that this work will lead to the arrival of new businesses.“
In recent weeks, he has noticed a return of tourists: “I had a few Russians, Dutch speakers but also Germans who came to discover the city. There are new people in town, thanks to the work.“
