ORAN – The Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun affirmed, Thursday in the wilaya of Oran, that the “FIAT” brand automobile factory will be ready to launch production at the end of 2023 in accordance with the set deadlines.
The minister indicated, in a statement to the press, on the sidelines of the inspection of this project located in the industrial zone of Tafraoui, as part of his visit to the wilaya of Oran, that the construction work is progressing according to the planned program, declaring himself optimistic that the first FIAT brand vehicle will leave the factory next December in accordance with the set deadlines.
Accompanied by the wali of Oran, Saïd Sayoud, the Algerian ambassador to Italy, Abdelkrim Touahria, the chairman of the board of directors of the factory, Hakim Boutehra and the general director of the factory, Sergey Vasilyev, Ali Aoun inquired regarding the progress of the work.
The minister declared that “the FIAT vehicle factory is considered the first of its kind 100 percent abroad. Its success is proof of Algeria’s openness to foreign investment,” stressing that the field is open to foreign investors, whether purely foreign or in partnership with national companies.
Factory managers presented a presentation of the project, the progress rate of which reached 75 percent, indicating that its production capacity is estimated at 90,000 vehicles per year.
Three types of vehicles (models) will be produced until 2026. The fourth type will be launched into production from 2029, it was announced.
No less than 125 workers were recruited while this number of jobs will reach 300 at the end of the current year, and the recruitment of 300 others is expected during the year 2024.
The number of trainees trained in cooperation with the vocational training and education sector reached 428, of whom 180 were hired.
Regarding the integration rate, the minister declared that it must reach 40 and 50 pc, but before that it is important to develop and densify the local industrial fabric to meet needs.
In this context, he gave instructions to support startups and accelerate the development of the space dedicated to young subcontractors in the industrial zone of Tafraoui, in particular those who will produce the spare parts used in assembly. cars.
