The Public Prosecution in Qalyubia Governorate, northern Egypt, is investigating a strange case of its kind, as a gang specialized in stealing the iron doors of cemeteries and selling them.

According to the records of the Qalyubia Security Directorate, the police received a report from the residents of the village of Shubra Shehab, affiliated with the Qanater Charitable Center, that they arrested two people while stealing several iron doors belonging to the village cemeteries.

A security source told Sky News Arabia that, “In the presence of police officers who received the two arrested individuals, they confessed to forming a gang with a third person (a fugitive), which had specialized for some time in stealing the iron doors of cemeteries to sell them, given the high prices of iron.”

According to the source, “When the residents were surprised by the disappearance of the doors of the village’s cemeteries, they prepared an ambush at night to find out who was stealing the doors. Indeed, they were able to arrest two people while they were loading the doors onto a bicycle, while a third escaped before the residents were able to catch him.”

The security source indicated that “five doors were seized from the defendants, in addition to equipment used to remove the doors from their places.”

The two accused were informed of the details of the third fugitive, as the police intensified their efforts to arrest him, and the authorities also decided to assign police patrols to the aforementioned graves.

The Public Prosecution decided to imprison the two arrested defendants, and ordered the police to quickly arrest the fleeing defendant, as well as intensify investigations into the merchants who buy these stolen goods.
