Good news for movie buffs, the Bouillon cinema reopens its doors on Saturday September 16. The 165-seat room closed last March, following the death of its owner, René Lemaire, then aged 82.
Today, his son, Olivier, has decided to take over “Bouillon-ciné”, with his wife and two sons. A true family story. “Lhe Lemaire family has been in the cinema since 1934. My grandfather started in 1934 with the cinema at the village hall in Bouillon which burned in 1965. Then, the cinema was rebuilt on land which belonged to our family and from there, it was my grandmother, Marie, who took care of the management of the cinema with René, her son, my dad“, says Olivier who never thought he would take over the management of the cinema.
“I always told myself that I would never do it once more, it’s still a difficult life, it’s always being present, a bit like in the restaurant and hotel industry, when others are having fun “. But ultimately, he changed his mind.
“Since the death of my dad, I have had a lot of requests for the reopening of the cinema and then I have two sons and a wife who have also pushed to continue the activity.“
Despite everything, Olivier kept his part-time job in Luxembourg because he knows that cinema will not be profitable. “We don’t make much of a living from cinema now, I hope that will change a little… In any case, for the moment, there is no income, what arrives in the coffers will be reinvested for the layout of the cinema.“
The reopening is scheduled for Saturday September 16. Next year, the cinema will celebrate its ninetieth anniversary.
