The seven-seat crossover Dongfeng 580 has returned to the Russian market – Autoreview

The new Russian distributor of the Chinese brand Dongfeng, the Motorinvest company, also known to us as a local manufacturer of electric vehicles under the Evolute brand (these are also models of the Dongfeng concern), announced the expansion of its model range. It was replenished with the three-row crossover Dongfeng 580. And this is not the first attempt to bring the “580” to the Russian market. And not even the second one.

In China, this SUV has been produced since 2016 under the name Fengguang 580 (in other Asian markets – DFSK Glory 580). Two years later, a restyled version appeared with an improved interior and different fog lights. Sales of the Dongfeng 580 model in Russia were first announced in mid-2018, and in December of the same year an official presentation took place in Moscow. However, the car reached dealers only in the summer of 2019. Cars came to us from China in simple configurations with “old” interior design, a naturally aspirated 1.8 engine (132 hp) and a five-speed manual transmission. We got acquainted with such a crossover.

In mid-2021, we began selling the 580 in the Luxury configuration with an updated interior, a 1.5 turbo engine (145 hp) and a CVT. And this fairly large crossover (4680 mm in length) has only a front drive. True, at that time sales of Dongfeng passenger cars in our country were going very poorly, and for some time the 580 model was the only one in the Russian range. And then deliveries were paused.

The new distributor believed that the seven-seat crossover would still find its niche in the Russian car market. Now Dongfeng 580 is offered in the same configuration as two years ago. The only Luxury package includes four airbags, climate control, a sunroof, a media system and all-round cameras. The power unit is a one and a half liter turbo engine with 145 hp. in conjunction with a Punch Powerglide V-belt variator. Front-wheel drive only, ground clearance is 200 mm.

The Russian importer has not yet announced a new recommended price of “five hundred and eighty.” However, we contacted several Moscow Dongfeng dealers, and they reported that they already have several 2023 cars in stock, which just recently arrived from China. Prices – from 2 million 290 thousand to 2 million 340 thousand rubles when purchasing for cash. One of the sellers warned regarding a possible increase in prices for cars from autumn deliveries by approximately 150 thousand rubles.

By the way, the second generation Dongfeng 580 crossover (in the picture above) has been on sale in the Middle Kingdom for two years now – with a new one and a half liter turbo engine (184 hp) and a classic six-speed automatic transmission. Plus there is a hybrid version called Dongfeng Fengon E5. There is no information regarding the appearance of such machines on the Russian market yet.
