President Andrés Manuel López Obrador described the process to choose who will head the defense committees of the Fourth Transformation as an example of a democratic exercise, something unprecedented. After disseminating the results of the polls, he assured: As I maintained from the beginning, I support Claudia Sheinbaum. He showered her with praise for being honest and prepared, to conclude that her outcome left him happy because there is a generational change. I am very calm because I know that there will be continuity with change.
He also had words for Marcelo Ebrard, whom he defined as a very good person, a good leader, a good public servant, he is my friend. I hope he decides to support the transformation. However, he admitted that he is free to choose any path, including the possibility of being an independent presidential candidate, because that alternative exists by collecting signatures, a scenario in which it would be necessary to consider who it would affect.
In his conference, he dedicated a large part to the electoral process, criticizing those who are already rubbing their hands over a possible division in their movement, because “they don’t realize where Marcelo has the most pull: in the middle classes. In one of those, Claudio’s candidate comes in third place, in fourth. Now, what are you doing for me? cooking”.
Long reference to the outcome of who will succeed him in office, in which, despite Ebrard’s disagreement, the president did not foresee problems within the movement, insisting at various times on waiting for the time to decide who will be part of his cabinet. He recalled that the rules of the process considered the incorporation of the second place in the next cabinet or in the Senate.
–Do you agree with Marcelo Ebrard’s position that the process be reinstated?
–No, I do not agree, because it is very clear, it is completely transparent, there was no tilt of the balance in favor of anyone. I have principles, ideals, I don’t have double talk, honesty is what I consider most important in my life, and he knows it, as everyone knows.
López Obrador asserted that the imposition, the dedazo, the time when the president in turn decided his successor was over. Regarding the process in which Sheinbaum was given the new leadership, he expressed his satisfaction with the calls for unity made by various actors, especially Claudia, who said that the doors were open, that they were not going to be closed to anyone. .
For the President, the fundamental thing is to think regarding the people, regarding justice, that this country cannot belong to a rapacious minority; disappear racism, classism; banish corruption from Mexico. “That is the project, it is what is important (…) And above all it is not the position, but the assignment, the project.” Although he was reluctant to give details of his meeting with Sheinbaum, governors and party leaders (since he considered it viable for the meeting – which was finally private – to take place at the Monument to the Revolution, the Zócalo or the Juárez Hemicycle), he announced that yesterday He would end his performance as leader of the movement by handing over the baton of command to the former head of the capital’s government.
And I am now dedicating the remaining time entirely to continuing to consolidate the programs for the benefit of the people, the welfare programs; to finish the works, to continue governing for everyone, serving everyone, listening to everyone, respecting everyone, even our adversaries.
