Oregon businesses and organizations will benefit from a nearly $2.3 million investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency improvements. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley announced this operation, which aims to reduce energy costs, generate new revenue and strengthen resilience. The funding is made possible in part by the Inflation Reduction Act, which is the nation’s largest investment to combat the climate crisis.

Senator Wyden emphasized the importance of strengthening the supply of clean, domestic energy to address high energy prices. He also highlighted his goal of ensuring that farmers, ranchers, businesses and rural organizations can benefit from cost savings. Senator Merkley supported this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of investing in Oregon small businesses, farmers and ranchers to support strong local economies.

The United States Department of Agriculture is allocating $266 million for renewable energy and energy efficiency projects across the country. This funding is provided through the Rural Energy for America Program, supported by the Inflation Reduction Act. In Oregon, several businesses and organizations will receive a portion of this funding for their projects.

Some notable projects include the installation of a 4.51 megawatt ground-mounted solar photovoltaic system for Verde Light Community Solar LLC in Ontario. This system will generate enough renewable electricity to power 440 homes and provide revenue to the company through the Oregon Community Solar Energy Program. Summit Ace Home and Garden in Lebanon will install a 108-kilowatt roof-mounted solar photovoltaic system, replacing 100% of its energy consumption with renewable electricity. Dickman Farms Inc. in Silverton will install a 303-kilowatt roof-mounted solar photovoltaic system, replacing 97% of its energy consumption.

Other projects involve increasing the deployment of renewable energy generation at small rural businesses, farms and agricultural producers throughout the state of Oregon. These initiatives include partnerships with the Deschutes Soil and Water Conservation District, Spark Northwest, the North Fork John Day River Watershed Council, and the Yamhill Soil and Water Conservation District. The University of Oregon AmeriCorps Rural Environments Resource Assistance Program will also work with area partners to support the implementation of renewable energy generation.

The funding provided to these businesses and organizations will not only help them save on utility costs, but will also contribute to the transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy sources. It is a significant step toward building a greener, more resilient future for Oregon.
