The Community Medicine Program offered a day of consultations and medical check-ups for local workers
The Community Medicine Program (PMC), of the Autonomous University of Guadalajara (UAG), held a day of consultations and medical check-ups for the workers of the Court of Arbitration and Escalafón Jalisco.
Dr. Alfredo Franco Magaña, PMC Medical Professor, commented that the brigade worked together with the Jalisco Health Department, Region 10, to offer basic medical services, glucose checks, tests to detect sexually transmitted diseases and other pathologies.
In turn, a mobile unit was carried in which UAG students who are trained as Dental Surgeons carried out cleanings and diagnoses.
In total, over two days more than 400 people were attended, from morning to followingnoon, and 6 students supported. These activities contribute to the training of Medicine and Dentistry students, since they care for real patients, reinforce their knowledge, become familiar with caring for people and develop more easily, explained the academic.
This is part of the work of the PMC, a multidisciplinary internship project that involves students and professors from careers such as Surgeon, Nutrition Sciences, Dental Surgeon, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, Nursing, and Psychology, who focus on providing service communities with limited resources, support in natural disasters and more, which promotes education and well-being in health in the region.
In addition to the PMC, the UAG has the Study Patients Unit (UPE), the Intecos and agreements with public and private institutions, where students put their knowledge into practice, always supported by an expert, and are trained as innovative Leaders of world class.
Contribute to your training
About these practices, participating students gave their opinion and expressed that it helps them in a positive way to their training.
For the third-quarter Surgeon student, Camila Durán Estrada, it has been inspiring to go to communities to provide personal and close service to those who need it most. This opportunity also allows you to learn a lot regarding the population, their eating habits, health, and needs, helping you to be a better doctor in the future.
While the student, also in the third semester of the same degree, Michel Parra Barroso, pointed out that the UAG offers opportunities to develop as a doctor and a service to those who need it most.
