If you yearn to appreciate the vastness of space and the awe-inspiring views of our planet Earth, don’t rush into expensive astronaut training just yet. The experience Space Explorers : L’INFINIa virtual reality immersion of the International Space Station (ISS), extends its dates for the fall in the Old Port of Montreal.

Immersion in the world of space begins little by little: screens broadcast NASA videos, surrounded by panels displaying a short biography of these ten astronauts who collaborated on the project, including Quebecer David Saint-Jacques.

An employee explains the details of the visit, how the virtual reality headsets work, before letting the group enter a hallway, with projections and narration perfectly introducing the experience of Space Explorers : L’INFINI.

The passage is intriguing, but above all, indeed immersive.

Equipped with helmets placed on the head, as well as headphones, the user has the luxury of moving around in a modeled version of the International Space Station, over four chapters exploring various aspects specific to this atypical life.

Capsules appear in the virtual environment, allowing astronauts to discuss themes that are dear to them, such as the vastness of questions that an astronaut constantly asks himself, how it can be mentally complex to be away from his family for so long , or even the community feeling that is ultimately created in the Station, despite the different countries and languages combined.

The 60 minutes allocated to the visit of the ISS are not enough to discover all the content offered by the experience. So that we might go back more than once and live different experiences, or go there with several people, to then discuss the different learnings acquired!

To the infinite

If the challenge of an exhibition, even more for an immersive experience, remains this ability to circulate the people present, it is undeniable that it has been met brilliantly.

The technology makes it possible to model people around, as well as one’s own hands, giving the opportunity to enjoy without holding that constant feeling of worry.

And it works: no snagging, barely a handful of rustles to note during the visit of Are you going out?.

After having followed the daily life of these men and women in space, the helmet invites us to sit in a seat, highlighted in the virtual vision, because reserved especially for the user, in order to enjoy sublime panoramas. of our blue planet, always in a 360° image.

Virtual reality headsets removed, visitors are invited to complete their experience by watching a mini-documentary on the Artemis I mission, initiated by NASA and aiming to bring humans back to the surface of the Moon by 2025.

A window to the future, the space exploration of tomorrow.

It’s just a start.

First scheduled from May to September, Space Explorers : L’INFINI is now extended until the fall.

To take part in the acclaimed immersion, already tested by more than 325,000 people before, this is where it is!
