The Pentagon, headquarters of the US Department of Defense, may launch a hypersonic missile from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida to test the new military weaponry that the country has been working on for some time.
According to the website Gizmodo, the secret release is planned to take place this week. That’s because the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency has issued air and sea navigation advisories for Cape Canaveral for September 6-8.
This would be the second attempt to launch a test launch of a hypersonic missile as the US tries to catch up to fast missiles from Russia and China. Unofficial information points out that, originally, this assessment was planned for last March.
In March, similar navigational advisories also appeared for Cape Canaveral, but no launches took place. The US Army later announced that it had given up on a test of a long-range hypersonic weapon.

The reason for this withdrawal from the March test was due to a battery failure detected during the pre-launch check. Hypersonic missiles are capable of flying at five times the speed of sound and have been studied for several decades.
The US military began developing hypersonic weapons technologies in the 1960s. In recent years, however, the country has lagged behind in this segment relative to Russia and Chinasomething the Pentagon is working to change quickly.
Although it is now down to zero hypersonic missiles, the Pentagon’s 2024 budget proposal suggests the Department of Defense expects to have at least 24 of them in the near future. That’s why, new tests can be performed as soon as possible.
