The Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) on Wednesday issued a code yellow call for vigilance for many provinces due to high temperatures. Only the coast and the province of Luxembourg should escape this episode of strong heat.

There are 2 out of 3 chances of a historic heat wave in Belgium because it would be the first time in September“, says David Dehenauw, head of the IRM’s time office. “Or at least 5 consecutive days recording at least 25 degrees, including 3 days with at least 30 degrees. We already had 2 days at 30 degrees today and yesterday.

According to IRM forecasts, temperatures will be high on Belgian territory until next Monday or even Tuesday. The thresholds of a heat wave should be reached over most regions.

The institute has therefore issued a yellow code for the provinces of West Flanders, East Flanders, Antwerp, Limburg, Flemish Brabant, Walloon Brabant, Liège, Hainaut, Namur and for Brussels. It is advisable to take care of the elderly and weakened by making them drink more and not exposing them to direct sunlight
