This Wednesday, September 6, Martin Buxant and Christophe Deborsu received an exceptional guest in “Les Puncheurs”: Bart De Wever. The leader of the NVA and mayor of Antwerp had not given an interview on a major French-language television channel since 2014. During this interview, the politician returned to several subjects, including wokism (Courant de from the USA which aims to denounce injustice and discrimination, according to the definition of Robert). And as usual, he didn’t have his tongue in his pocket.
In his latest book, just published, entitled “Woke”, he denounces wokism and explains what bothers him in particular. “I don’t think the woke really defends the rights of women or minorities. I don’t think this is the next step in emancipating the Enlightenment movements. On the contrary, the woke seeks to divide societies between so-called victims“, he explains.
For the maintenance of the “Savage”
Still on the theme of wokism, Bart De Wever was asked regarding the controversy that took place at the Ducasse d’Ath concerning whether or not to maintain the figure of the “Savage”. The city of Ath has also lost its UNESCO intangible heritage label because of this. For the leader of the NVA, there is no question of changing anything.
“JI think this is a very typical example of wokism. It’s a tradition that has existed for generations, people rejoice in it. (…) But all of a sudden, a wokist arrives and says ‘Oh no, that’s not right, that’s racism. They make people feel guilty and demand change. (…) Me I am not once morest the idea that a tradition can evolve, (…) but it must be a natural process, a process of progress (…)”, he says.
Finally, he explains that if he were the mayor of Ath, he would not give in.
