Sultan Al Jabir, chairman of the upcoming COP28 summit in the UAE, says the world is failing to meet its climate goals. He was speaking at the Africa Climate Summit in Nairobi, Kenya. This summit is also aimed at economic mobilization to deal with climate change. The aim of the summit is to emphasize the need for African countries to start responding to climate change. Africa is a big victim of climate change. But they point out that the financial support they get is very less. They complain that Africa receives only 12 percent of the financial support it needs to deal with climate change.
The summit proclaims that African countries are trying to respond to climate change as best they can, despite a lack of financial support. Several sustainable development projects were inaugurated at the summit.
The UAE has announced a sustainability plan in solidarity with Africa’s climate change struggles. The UAE promises to generate 15 GW of clean energy in Africa at a cost of $4.5 billion. Africa’s current clean energy capacity is 60 GW. 15 GW will be added to this.
