Even following the launch of Apple Music Classical at the beginning of the year, Apple continues to invest heavily in the world of classical music. This time, the legendary Swedish label BIS Recordsspecializing in this musical genre, announced today that it has been acquired by the Cupertino giant and that it will soon be part of its streaming service, as well as Platoon.
The announcement of the sale was made by Robert von Bahrfounder of the label, through a letter on its official page. This announcement, it is worth noting, comes precisely in the week that BIS Records, founded in 1973, completed 50 years of existence. The company is widely recognized for its vast library and its strong investment in high-quality audio.
After 50 years, BIS Records is proud to announce that we have joined the Apple family. BIS will become part of Apple Music Classical and Platoon. In this way, the musical treasures of our extensive catalogue will be further enhanced and preserved.

According to von Bahr, all current BIS Records employees will be retained with the acquisition, including the founder. For him, Apple “is the ideal home to usher in the next era of classical music”:
There have been numerous moves lately on Apple’s part to further support creativity within the classical music space, not least the launch of Apple Music Classical earlier this year. Apple and BIS also share a fundamental belief in the importance of preserving audio quality. As everyone knows, BIS has always been regarding exceptional sound quality, and Apple’s dedication to sound, as well as Spatial Audio, is something I’ve been following with interest.
Currently, Apple Music Classical has a catalog of more than 5 million songs, 700 playlists made by experts and a series of editorial notes regarding composers and their main works. The app also lets you listen to tracks in high quality (up to 192kHz/24 bits of Hi-Res Lossless) and with Spatial Audio.
Apple Music Classical works in conjunction with the main Apple streaming service app and is the result of the purchase of Primephonic in 2021. No value was shared regarding the purchase of BIS Records.
Apple Music has a catalog of more than 100 million songs and 30,000 playlists — many of them supporting Spatial Audio (Dolby Atmos) and in very high definition, with audio Lossless. For those who love classical music, there’s a dedicated app with over 5 million tracks, all in a streamlined interface! In Brazil, there are three types of subscription: University (BRL 11.90/month), Individual (BRL 21.90/month) is Familiar (BRL 34.90/month).
