After two stores (in Glasgow and London), one more Apple Store do United Kingdom decided to unionize, this time in the city of Southampton. The information was shared by the official profile of United Tech & Allied Workers Union (UTAW)who also represented the employees of the Apple White City.
Employees at the store in question have already filed a request for Apple to recognize the union. If the company does not respond within ten days or simply refuses to meet the claims, a legal process will be initiated – provided that the union manages to prove that at least 10% of the company’s employees Apple Southampton decided to participate in the undertaking.

As noted by 9to5Mac, employees complain regarding their salaries (which have already stopped keeping up with inflation for some time) and the lack of transparency on the part of the company regarding differences in pay. In addition, they also cite a lack of flexible working hours, metrics-driven management, and a punitive disciplinary culture when employees file complaints.
Apple Retail is touted as a top employer, but the reality is that it’s an overworked and unhappy workforce. They try to keep us calm with various benefits, but they don’t pay enough for the amount of hard work, skills and knowledge that is required. We try to bring these issues up through employee forums and internal grievances, but they are always brushed off with a phony smile. That’s why we decided to form a union.
Another complaint is the changes promoted by Apple in the Genius Bar, which have left store employees overloaded and without the necessary resources to provide a quality service. In addition, in recent times, Apple has opted for outsourced labor, which is therefore cheaper, to carry out the repairs, instead of maintaining teams in each of the stores.
Workers also accuse Apple of trying to suppress Apple Southampton’s unionization efforts. According to were cohenorganizer of the UTAW, the company tried to “victimize” some of its elected representatives and prevent employees from discussing these issues at work.
Apple has yet to comment on the matter.
