Novak Djokovic’s Dominant Victory at US Open Propels Him to 47th Grand Slam Semi-Final

Novak Djokovic (ATP 2) sinks into the US Open table like butter: Taylor Fritz (9), with his too monolithic game, lost 6-1 6-4 6-4 without ever threatening the 36-year-old Serbian on his way to a record 47th Grand Slam semi-final.

Despite the heat on Tuesday – or perhaps because of it – Djokovic did not stay long (2h35) in the steam room of the Arthur-Ashe court, the roof of which had been half closed to provide shade on the ground.

“I cut my hair and it helped me, I was more aerodynamic”he joked, before getting serious once more: “The conditions were very hot and humid, but it was the same for both of us. We train to resist”.

13th semi-final at Flushing Meadows

Fritz was never threatening. So much so that Djokovic, already guaranteed to become world no. on Roger Federer. In New York, only Jimmy Connors did better (14). Djokovic is also the only player to have reached the last four of the four Majors this season.

The Serb’s next opponent, who is aiming for a 24th Grand Slam title to equal Margaret Court’s all-time record, will be known at the end of the night session. It will still be an American, Frances Tiafoe (10), semi-finalist last year, or Ben Shelton (47).
