The multidisciplinary artist Franck Sylvestre decided to send a letter of formal notice on Tuesday once morest the spokesperson for the Red Coalition, Alain Babineau, for comments made which would have forced the cancellation of his shows.

According to the formal notice, Alain Babineau would have “associated this show with systemic racism and the practice known as black face» last February.

Thus, the artist demands that Mr. Babineau stop damaging his reputation and that of his show. He also wants a withdrawal statement to be issued within the next 15 days.
“Failing which, we will consider all appropriate legal proceedings, including a claim for compensatory and exemplary damages, for an amount of $25,000,” said the artist’s lawyer, Me Guillaume Rousseau.
“My artistic practice is to use caricature, comic and absurd, to address themes that are certainly sensitive, but essential to living together, to a better knowledge of the historical paths of the communities that today make up a society as plural than that of Quebec,” said Mr. Sylvestre.
